Our Story

The Sound of Anatolia

Sounds Anatolian was born from a simple conviction: some of the world's finest cymbals are still made the old way, by hand, in the workshops of Turkey. For generations, Turkish cymbalsmiths have shaped bronze with hammer and fire, passing their craft from father to son. Every cymbal that leaves these ateliers carries that heritage in its voice: warm, complex, and alive.

What Makes a Hand-Hammered Turkish Cymbal Different

Hand-hammering is not a shortcut to a logo. It is a craft. Each hammer strike shapes the bronze and the sound at the same time, giving every cymbal its own character that no two players experience identically. Combined with traditional casting and centuries-old finishing techniques, the result is an instrument with depth, musicality, and a soul that stamped, mass-produced cymbals cannot replicate.

From casting to lathing

Casting. Molten bronze is poured into round molds to form the blank, the disc of metal every cymbal begins as. The alloy cast here lays the foundation for the cymbal’s character.

Furnace heating. The blank is returned to the furnace and heated until it glows, softening the bronze so it can be shaped without cracking.

Hand hammering. Skilled hands hammer the bronze, and every strike shapes both the cymbal’s form and its voice. This slow, physical work gives each cymbal its individual character.

Lathing. On the lathe, fine cuts bring the cymbal to its final thickness and leave the concentric grooves that refine its tone and response.
